Fulfillment Hub USA – Locked Warehouse vs. Allocated Warehouse in ShipHero

When you’re reviewing an order in ShipHero and working with multiple warehouses, you may notice two fields on the order details page:

  • Locked Warehouse

  • Allocated Warehouse

Understanding the difference between these two is important for controlling where an order should ship from and how ShipHero allocates inventory within Fulfillment Hub USA’s network.

These columns appear under different conditions depending on whether Multi-Warehouse Allocation (MWA) is enabled or not.

Locked Warehouse vs Allocated Warehouse

Locked Warehouse

The Locked Warehouse option appears on:

  • Accounts (or client accounts) where Multi-Warehouse Allocation is disabled.

A Locked Warehouse is the warehouse that the order is intended to be allocated to.

  • If an open (pending) order needs to be fulfilled from a different warehouse, you can manually change the selection in the Locked Warehouse dropdown.

  • This effectively tells ShipHero:
“Allocate this order from this specific warehouse.”

Allocated Warehouse

The Allocated Warehouse field indicates the warehouse that has actually allocated inventory for that order.

  • On accounts with Multi-Warehouse Allocation enabled, only the Allocated Warehouse column is visible on the order details page.

  • In this mode, ShipHero uses MWA rules to automatically determine which warehouse should fulfill the order.

  • Because allocation is being handled by your configured rules, you cannot manually change the warehouse from this field.

Summary

  • Locked Warehouse

    • Visible when Multi-Warehouse Allocation is disabled.

    • You can manually choose which warehouse an order should use.

    • Great for tightly controlled, operator-driven allocation.

  • Allocated Warehouse

    • Visible when Multi-Warehouse Allocation is enabled.

    • Shows the warehouse chosen by your MWA rules.

    • Not manually editable from the order; the rules drive the decision.

At Fulfillment Hub USA, we rely on these fields—paired with our allocation rules—to ensure orders are fulfilled from the most efficient and appropriate warehouse in our network.
