Fulfillment Hub USA – Putaway in ShipHero WMS

The Putaway feature in ShipHero is used to move inventory between locations inside the same warehouse.
If you need to move stock from one FHU warehouse to another, please refer to “How to Transfer Inventory from One Warehouse to Another.”

Using Putaway, our team doesn’t need manual notes or memory to know which locations are open or where partial cases ended up. ShipHero:

  • Helps you quickly find empty locations while receiving and putting away new inventory.

  • Suggests existing locations for the same product, so you keep SKUs consolidated instead of spread across the building.

Getting Started

On the ShipHero Mobile App, go to:

Products > Putaway

There are three ways to start a new Putaway flow, all using your mobile scanner:

  • Scan an Item

  • Scan a Case

  • Scan a Location

Note: Make sure that you have available inventory for the item and the source location. If not, ShipHero will show an error.


Creating a New Putaway List

  1. Scan any item or case you want to move.

  2. If the barcode matches an existing SKU, a popup will appear showing all locations that currently hold that product.

  3. Select a location and tap Confirm.

    • If you scan a location, ShipHero will automatically treat it as the source and skip the selection dialog.

    This tells Putaway where you’re pulling the units from.

  4. After choosing the source location, you’ll see the Putaway list in Draft mode.

    From the Draft screen you can:

    • Preview how many SKUs and units will be transferred.

    • Edit which SKUs are included.

    • Adjust the quantity of each SKU to be moved.

  5. To remove an SKU, either:

    • Set its putaway quantity to 0, or

    • Tap the item options and select Remove.

  6. You can add more items or cases to the same list at any time by scanning them.

  7. If you scan a location, ShipHero will add all items with remaining inventory in that location to the Putaway list.

Tip: Putaway highlights products that need replenishment, so you can prioritize getting those back into pickable inventory quickly.

Once everything looks correct, tap Start Putaway to begin the process.


Running the Putaway Process

When you tap Start Putaway, the list moves from Draft to In Progress.
At this stage:

  • The list can’t be edited (you can’t add or remove SKUs).

  • You’re ready to physically move product.

  1. Tap or scan any item on the list to start transferring it.

  2. You’ll see the Select Location screen.

  3. Scan a destination location or tap one from the list to set it as the target.

  4. Optionally, use Filters (top right) to hide:

    • Non-pickable locations

    • Unsellable locations

  5. After choosing the destination, you’ll be taken to the Transfer Item screen.

Transferring Items

On the Transfer Item screen you can:

  • Enter the quantity to move using the input field, or

  • Scan items to count them into the transfer.

  • Change the target location by tapping the location badge/name.

You don’t have to transfer everything at once:

  • Tap SAVE to record a partial transfer and return to the list.

  • Use the ALL button in the input field to transfer the full expected quantity and auto-save.

After saving, you’ll be returned to the Putaway list. Status icons show your progress:

  • Green check – Expected quantity for that SKU has been fully transferred.

  • Orange check – Only a partial quantity has been transferred.

You can also monitor overall progress using the badges at the top of the screen (e.g., remaining items).

ShipHero will update the inventory transfer logs with all completed moves, so you can audit changes later.

When you’re done:

  • Tap Complete to finish the Putaway process, or

  • Let the system automatically complete the list when all expected quantities have been transferred.

If you still have other SKUs to move later, you can add them to a new Putaway list.

FAQ – Putaway at Fulfillment Hub USA

Q: What happens to the items I didn’t transfer?
A: Nothing changes. Any units you don’t move stay in their original locations.


Q: What if I close out of a batch before finishing all transfers?
A: Completed transfers are saved. Any remaining items are simply removed from that Putaway batch and left as-is in their original locations.


Q: Can I save my list for later?
A: No. Putaway lists are temporary. If you need to continue later, you can create a new list and scan the remaining items again.


Q: Are these transfers logged anywhere?
A: Yes. All movements are recorded in the Inventory Change Log so you can trace what was moved, when, and by whom.


Q: Can I create a very large list (e.g., 1,000 items) and only transfer a few?
A: Yes. Putaway is flexible and only modifies items that are actually transferred. Anything not completed remains in its original location.


Q: Is the list unique for each user?
A: No. Lists are not user-locked. Other users can create or replicate similar lists.


Q: Are items locked to a specific user during Putaway?
A: Not by default. If strict user locking is something your operation requires, please contact your ShipHero point of contact to discuss a feature request.


Q: Is this a fully guided putaway that tells me what to move and where?
A: Not yet. This feature is the foundation for smarter, more guided putaway workflows that can be layered on top.
